Self-Introduction

I wish there was a proper format for writing a blog post, but there’s none. How frustrating, but no, no I take it back. It’s actually awesome, because there are hundreds and thousands of different writing styles out there and all of them work! That’s an amazing thing and something of an encouragement, because my style right now is just no-brain-to-mouth-filter style. Will it work? I suppose that’s how I learn. But I won’t learn if I don’t write, right? So yes, this is another pointed reminder to myself to actually put in the effort and write.

(Please do excuse the Lasseiz Faire manner in which I’m writing. I’m not entirely certain how to write a public yet personal post. Yet!)

I suppose I should do some self-introduction on the net, even though there’s loads of viewers out there who are probably google-fu senseis and ninjas. My most public profile with the same username is at fanfiction.net, where I write fanfiction of various movies/games/manga. Hello from the other side to all Otakus! Yoroshiku-onegaishimasu. I haven’t written Yaoi, to those who might make the * face at the…overly enthusiastic BL support fandom. I’m not against it, but there are some people out there who scare me with their eagerness. ( _ )**

But back to me. I’m Memory25, you can just call me Mem. The origin of this name is from a song (Jellicle Cats) title and it evolved into a poke at my faulty memory. No, I don’t have early dementia, just extreme absent-mindedness. >.> As some of my readers can attest to, I’ve been known to leave my stories hanging for a bajillion years before updating. Part of it is laziness, part of it is just me being extra picky with my writing. I can be sitting on the next chapter for months because I’m not happy with one part of it, or with the flow, etc etc. Which is a good thing for hobby writing, not so good when you want to actually commercialize.

Annnnd, to my next point. I’m a wannabe writer who definitely wants to remove the wannabe part. So far I’ve written stories, but the truth is that I’m also completely interested in copywriting. If you guys don’t know the word, it’s the next hot thing on the net! (No it isn’t) I think people are more familiar with advertising/marketing, which is kind of what a copywriter does, but not all.

It’s also new to me, because I just discovered the field existed, and boy was I happy to discover it! Like I said, I love to write, but honestly, writing stories takes a lot of planning, world building, and characterization. Which I’m perfectly happy to do, but as you create and create and create, you get really juiced out and then you need to get ideas from more sources AKA storybooks. But reading stories all the time gets you pegged with the “useless bookworm” title. Useless coz storybooks aren’t “productive” reading. And you can’t exactly write a story from an engineering textbook.

I’m not looking to write a how-to book, because I don’t have nearly enough knowledge to fill a blog post, let alone some terrifying, 2.5kg, 800 paged behemoth. Just the thought of starting such a task gives me chills. Worse still, I’m utterly at a loss as to where to start. I think that people who can fill up such books are amazing and should be locked in the national library archives to keep them safe and constantly producing content for me to read.

And that’s a wrap I suppose. In Word document this is almost exactly a page, which I’m hoping it translates to on a blog post. (I'm counting this under articles because it took me 15 minutes of planning! I'll work on the next article and post it at 7pm but this counts as half!)

To those of you not too familiar with the many weird faces that I’ve entered. Here’s a quick FYI:
* is actually pronounced Jiong for those non-Chinese and not-so-good Mandarin speakers. The meaning isn’t important here because it’s used for the face it resembles. I think that expression speaks for itself, doesn’t it?

**Japanese Kaomoji is amazing. There’s a website called Japanese Emoticons that’s especially useful for your daily dose of wacky faces. You just need to click on the face you like and it automatically copies it to clipboard for you.
